SUMMARY:InDiCo-Global Webinar Series | Shaping Digital Governance in Latin America: Lessons from Chile
DESCRIPTION:Register here. \nLatin America\, and especially Chile\, has been experiencing recent regulatory developments in the field of technology. These changes are particularly significant in areas such as data protection\, cybersecurity\, the digital economy\, and artificial intelligence\, and are largely inspired by and aligned with European frameworks. As a result\, ICT standards have become increasingly relevant both in Chile and across the region. \nWhile regulation is important\, it is equally necessary to create spaces for connection among various stakeholders\, including private and public entities\, academia\, and decision-makers. This is essential to ensure that the implementation of such regulations is harmonious. Thus\, it is crucial to support these kinds of regulatory and technological standardization dialogues. \nIn this context\, the Law\, Science and Technology Program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile\, in collaboration and with the support of the EU initiative InDiCo-Global\, seeks to promote knowledge exchange between European experts and local actors. In this session\, members of the team will address: \n\nRecent technological regulations in Chile\, with a special focus on data protection and cybersecurity.\nHow voluntary standards and regulation interact in Chile\nThe importance of knowledge exchange and the need for cooperation through joint projects in the region.\n\nThis webinar aims to provide regulatory and standardization context that initially motived the cooperation between InDiCo Global and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. It will be particularly useful for those looking to understand the latest regulatory changes in Chile in the areas of Data Protection\, Cybersecurity\, and Fintech\, as well as the importance of regional cooperation on standards. \nWho should attend\n\nLegal professionals.\nAcademics and researchers in public policy\, technology\, or law.\nTechnology industry leaders.\nPublic sector representatives.\nNational security agencies and related entities.\nStudents interested in exploring this field for their future careers.\n\n> Watch the Recording

SUMMARY:InDiCo-Global Webinar Series | From Identity to Inclusion: Strengthening Digital Public Services through Standards
DESCRIPTION:Digital transformation is only as strong as the standards that support it — and increasingly\, governments are looking to international benchmarks to ensure security\, interoperability\, and inclusivity in their services.  \nIn this fourth InDiCo-Global webinar\, we explore two on-the-ground initiatives from Africa and Latin America that engage with the EU’s approach to digital identity and digital government as a point of reference for local action.  \nDebora Comparin will share her work on developing security guidelines for digital identity wallets in Africa\, bridging regulatory gaps between the EU’s eIDAS framework and emerging continental trust frameworks. The aim: to build scalable\, secure\, and locally adaptable models that enable trusted cross-border digital identity solutions.  \nJulio Herrera\, representing Red Ciudadana in Guatemala\, will present efforts to strengthen digital government services through the adoption of European ICT standards — improving transparency\, accessibility\, and interoperability in public administration.  \nWhy join\n\nUnderstanding the EU’s eIDAS model and its global relevance\nSecurity and trust in digital identity wallets across regions\nAligning European standards with digital governance in Guatemala\nLessons in localisation: what works\, what’s needed\, and why context matters\nCapacity building and institutional readiness in public digital infrastructure\n\nWho should attend\n\nPolicymakers and digital rights advocates\nLegal and compliance professionals\nAI developers and data practitioners\nAcademia and civil society organisations\nInternational standards and cooperation bodies.\n\n  \nIf you missed this session\, read the key takeaways and watch the recording here: https://indico-global.eu/2025/05/01/webinar-recap-from-identity-to-inclusion-strengthening-digital-public-services-through-standards/

SUMMARY:ETSI / CEN Workshop on EU Digital Identity Framework Standards
DESCRIPTION:A revision to regulation 910/2014 on electronic identities\, authentication and signatures (eIDAS) is expected to be published in the Official Journal of the European Union in spring 2024. This revision establishes an ambitious European Digital Identity Framework with digital identity wallets and a number of new trust services. This will bring about a major transformation of security of the European digital infrastructure facilitating cross border transactions\, supporting seamless access to financial\, governmental and commercial services across Europe with a high level of accountability. \nETSI and CEN are working together to develop a number of standards to support this new regulatory framework building on the latest globally recognised standards for website authentication\, open identities and mobile based wallets. The workshop will present the latest status of these standards and is aimed to include demonstrations from large scale pilots applying the EU Digital Identity Wallet. \nThe Workshop is conducted by ETSI ESI Technical Committee and CEN/TC 224. \n Who should join? \nThe workshop will be of direct interest to all those concerned with ensuring a secure digital infrastructure across Europe including regulators\, providers of mobile identity solutions\, manufacturers of secure elements / smart devices\, trust service providers\, application and secure solution providers. \nWhy attending? \nThe standards CEN and ETSI underpinning this new European Digital Identity Framework will have a major impact on the European market which solution providers need to be aware of to keep up with changing environment. Also\, the workshop\, and the following open consultation on draft standards\, provides the opportunity to influence the direction taken in CEN and ETSI standards supporting the European Digital Identity Framework.

SUMMARY:Standardisation in Practice: Towards a CEN-CENELEC Workshop Agreement
DESCRIPTION:Standardisation is a valuable approach to enhance the recognition of research results\, and many research projects strive to broaden the user network for their findings by actively participating in standardisation processes. In cases where no ongoing standardisation efforts are underway in a specific context of interest and a widespread impact is desired\, especially across diverse sectors and stakeholders\, establishing a CEN-CENELEC Workshop to formulate a CWA (CEN-CENELEC Workshop Agreement) can be a prudent choice. This method is the most expedient for developing standards\, as it involves an ad hoc group\, making it particularly well-suited for the outcomes of Research and Innovation (R&I). It can also serve as the initial step towards a future European standard (EN) or International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standard.\n\nThis training session is designed to assist R&I projects in enhancing their understanding of the CEN-CENELEC Workshop and CWA. It addresses key questions such as how to initiate the CWA process\, what prerequisites need to be met\, and the required resources\, and provides advice from experienced research projects.\n\n\nWho should attend?\nThe training session is intended for the researchers who participate in EU-funded R&I projects and anyone interested in the basics of standardisation. \nLearn more
