SUMMARY:How standards can pave the way towards the right to access information
DESCRIPTION:Open Data\, Interoperability & Digital Government in Latin America\nPublic access to information increasingly depends on how well digital public systems are designed\, aligned\, and interoperable. While European standards provide a strong reference framework\, their impact ultimately depends on how they are implemented within public administrations.   \nThis webinar explores how EU-aligned standards for open data and interoperability are being translated into practice through InDiCo-Global Open Call projects. Drawing on concrete experiences from Mexico and Guatemala\, the session will examine how semantic standards\, interoperability frameworks\, and capacity-building efforts support more transparent\, efficient\, and inclusive digital government.   \nThe discussion will also reflect on what it takes to move from policy frameworks to operational deployment\, and how cooperation between public authorities\, standardisation bodies\, and implementation actors can support this transition across regions.   \nFeatured Open Call 1 Beneficiaries \n\nBridging the Gap Between European and Mexican ICT Standards in Open Data  \nEnhancing Digital Government in Guatemala through European Standards  \n\n Agenda: \n\nWelcome and context setting\n\nScene-setter: From standards to public service delivery\n\nProject results and next steps\nModerated discussion and audience Q&A\nKey takeaways and forward look\nClosing remarks\n\nWebinar Speakers:\nOpen Call 1 Beneficiaries: \n\nJulio Herrera Toledo\, Executive Director\, Red Ciudadana (Guatemala)\, Civic Tech and Digital Governance Specialist\nTeresa López Barajas\, Ethos Innovación en Políticas Públicas\n\nPanel Speakers: \n\nXavier Piednoir\, Project Coordinator – InDiCo-Global (ETSI)\nJohn Ketchell\, Editor of CEN/TR 18260 Sustainable Cities and Communities (Representing ANEC)\nModerator: Sebastian Steinbuss\, Chair of “CEN/CENELEC Joint Technical Committee JTC 25 on Data Management\, Dataspaces\, Cloud\, and Edge”\n\n> Watch the Recording

SUMMARY:Seminar on Human Rights and ICT Standardisation
DESCRIPTION:Organised by the European Commission\, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)\, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). \nSupported by the EU-funded projects StandICT.eu \,INSTAR and InDiCo Global \n– \nThe seminar follows the workshop organised at WTSA-24 on “How can ICT standards ensure that human rights are upheld in the era of new and emerging technologies\, and it is one of the actions proposed in the contribution from the EU Member States and the European Commission to TSAG 2025. \nIn today’s fast-paced digital landscape\, emerging technologies are revolutionizing our world\, creating significant opportunities for innovation and societal progress\, but also raising complex challenges that impact human rights. As these technologies – including artificial intelligence\, metaverse\, and 5G/6G – become more embedded in everyday life\, it is critical to ensure that human integrity\, dignity\, and rights are upheld. \nHuman Rights are defined by regulators\, and compiled in Conventions\, Declarations and different legal texts. This workshop seeks to explore the role that ICT standards\, which are crucial on the implementation of products\, services and applications relying on the rise of new technologies\, can play to preserve human rights in a connected digital world. \nThe discussions will focus on the role of technical standards in ensuring that these technologies are developed and deployed in ways that are consistent with human rights\, including privacy\, data protection\, non-discrimination\, access to impartial information or even right to work. \nThis event highlights the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach\, bringing together diverse perspectives from governments\, international organizations\, the private sector\, civil society and standards development organizations. Collaboration among these groups is vital to ensure the understanding of what is practically needed and meant to develop safe and trustworthy standard-setting processes.

SUMMARY:CEN and ETSI workshop on EU Digital Framework centring on the EU Identity Wallet
DESCRIPTION:Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 amending Regulation (EU) 910/2014 on electronic identities\, authentication and signatures (eIDAS 2) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union this spring 2024. This amendment established an ambitious European Digital Identity Framework including EU Digital Identity Wallets (EUDIW) which provides a means of identification across Europe. This will bring about a major transformation of security of the European digital infrastructure facilitating cross border transactions and supporting seamless access to financial\, governmental and commercial services across Europe with a high level of accountability. \nThe EUDIW now are now being implemented and tested by EU nations ready to go live by end of 2026. Also\, use of the EUDIW is already being trialled for a range of large-scale pilot applications for governmental services businesses\, banking\, vehicle registration and travel. \nCEN and ETSI have been working together with the EC in 2025 to provide an initial set of standards and specifications for implementations of the EUDIW. These standards are now being refined and extended to ensure a high level of security\, with interoperability between all national EUDIW implementations and their usage by the EU digital infrastructure. The workshop will present the set of existing standards for the EUDIW and ongoing work in refining and extending these standards. \nWho should join?\nThe workshop will be of direct interest to all those concerned with ensuring a secure digital infrastructure across Europe including regulators\, providers of mobile identity solutions\, manufacturers of secure elements / smart devices\, trust service providers\, application and secure solution providers. \nWhy attending?\nThe CEN and ETSI standards underpinning the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) will have a major impact on the European market which solution providers need to be aware of to keep up with changing environment. The workshop will provide the opportunity understand the standardisation being applied to the EUDIW and interact with the leading experts working on this standardisation.
