CEN, CENELEC, ETSI and CROSQ Advance Strategic Cooperation on ICT Standardisation

On 19 March 2025, representatives from CEN, CENELEC and ETSI — on behalf of the InDiCo-Global project — met with the Caribbean Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) to strengthen collaboration around digital and ICT standardisation.

The meeting marked the first official engagement with Dr. Sharonmae Smith Walker in her new role as Secretary General of CROSQ, alongside Martin Chatel, Chief Policy Officer at ETSI, and Andreea Gulacsi, Director for Policy and External Affairs at CEN and CENELEC.

Discussions built on the outcomes of the recent European Standardisation System (ESS) workshop and focused on expanding access to European standards in the CARICOM region. Participants explored opportunities to enhance the adoption and relevance of EU-led frameworks in support of regional priorities.

A central part of the exchange focused on emerging EU legislation — including the Digital Product Passport (DPP) under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the European Digital Identity framework, and the revised eIDAS 2.0 Regulation. Each of these initiatives is expected to be underpinned by supporting standards that reduce technical barriers to trade, facilitate interoperability, and enable secure cross-border digital transactions.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to developing international standards that can help translate these frameworks into practical tools for implementation beyond Europe. Strengthening cooperation between the European and CARICOM standardisation communities will be key to ensuring inclusive and globally aligned approaches.

InDiCo Global’s upcoming Open Calls were also highlighted as an opportunity to support quality infrastructure projects across CARICOM, promoting regional integration and sustainable development through standardisation.

This dialogue reflects InDiCo Global’s ongoing work to build stronger international cooperation in digital standardisation — connecting regions, supporting shared policy goals, and enabling inclusive digital transformation.
